Shadow Glen was founded as a not for profit, equity private golf club in 1987, by James and Charles Sunderland of Ash Grove Cement Company. It is the centerpiece of a 3,600 acre exclusive community in Olathe, Kansas.

Memberships were first sold in July, 1988, with an October, 1989, clubhouse opening. The team of Tom Watson, Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish designed the 18-hole golf course which encompasses 7,051 yards from the back tees. Many of the greens are traditional rather than huge and intimidating which rewards the golfer who can read and execute well.

The course is nationally known and was named the "Best New Course of the Year" by Golf Digest in 1989. It was included in "America's Greatest 100 Courses" by Golf Digest in 1995 and the "Top 10 Courses in Kansas" by Golf Digest in 1999. Shadow Glen has been ranked in the Top 5 Courses in Kansas every year since its opening and in Golf Digest's March 2000 issue, Hole #13, was chosen as one of America's best 18 holes.

Also included in the amenities is a Howard Nearing designed 22,000 square foot clubhouse and extensive practice area, including an indoor, heated learning center. Private rooms are available for every size of event from small, casual luncheons to large, formal banquets and the menus offer a wide range of cuisine. The clubhouse setting takes full advantage of the terrain, offering lovely views of the course from its lofty perch which includes overlooking the 65 acre Shadow Lake.

In accordance with the Membership Agreement and Club By Laws, the membership is limited to 355 resident/intermediates and 25 non-resident members to ensure a compatible membership and full enjoyment of the club facilities. Reserved starting times are not used nor necessary at Shadow Glen. Golf Memberships have been limited so that members may begin play whenever they choose on most occasions.
